So often, I find myself pre disqualifying myself from talking to someone or pursuing relationship with them because I feel not important enough, or too important, for them. I found a verse in Matthew 10 which really spoke to this, and convicted me of my behaviour.
''And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
The disciple didn't serve this person because of who the person was, but because of who they were, as a disciple of Jesus. God showed me as I read this that we are to treat others not by their title/reputation/significance, but by ours. We are to treat people with love, and kindness, and grace all because of who we are, not because of their importance or what they have said or done. This means treating everyone the same, whether you think you should be or not.
So, what is our title? God speaks in His word a lot about our identity in Him, but here are a couple of things He says we are.
We are His child - He chose and adopted us as His own family. We are a child of the Creator of the universe, the King of all kings, the Ruler over heaven and earth. That holds quite a bit of significance!
We are His disciples - Being a "disciple" means being a "personal follower of Jesus", so following God is apart of who we are and what we do, its what our being revolved around. As disciples, we are commanded to follow Him and show others Him.
We are His workmanship - Different translations translate this to be His "handiwork." We were hand crafted by God, we are His precious possession. He is the Creator of us, and we are His treasure.
There are so many more things He calls us - scripture is full of them! I recommend you to go through and find some, speak them over yourself, and live them out!
My latest podcast episode, Hope in Your Title, speaks more about this and also how this can be outworked in relationships we have with others!
