We have all felt this way. With ever changing expectations and standards of success in any field of our life, reaching success can feel like running a race where the finish line is continually moving away from you. There is always more you can do and be to be defined as "successful." To the world, success means being the absolute best at what you do, no one being better than you - which is pretty impossible. I know I've felt discouraged when I can't reach these standards of success, and have started to determine my worth from it.
This isn't from God.
God doesn't want us chasing worldly standards, defining ourselves by how successful we are or aren't.
When we chase worldly success, we are putting it in the centre of the life. As we do everything to do with it and focus on it with everything we are, we worship success. We put it on top in life, instead of who should be there.
So, what does God say about this?
The most important thing God says about this is that our worth isn't determined by our success. Our worth was settled at the cross, solidified by our Creator, and something we can never change. This worth is priceless, unique, the highest. We are worth more that precious rubies. We are worth the right hand of the throne of the King. We can't humanly express how much we are worth.
Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. - Matthew 10:31
As a result of God telling us how much we are worth, He says to not fear. Why did He do this?
Because of our indescribable, unmeasurably worth defined by the Kings of King, we don't need to fear. We don't need to fear that we are worse than someone else, that we can't compare, that someone is more successful than us. We can be secure in who God created us to be.
I pray that you are encouraged by how much you are worth to God. You may not feel worthy, but our feelings aren't the truth - God is. Next time you're discouraged for not comparing or being as successful as someone else, remember your worth defined by God.
