New Years is a weird time. It's the time where everyone collectively decides to change everything about themselves by setting New Years resolutions. Whether that is to get fit, eat healthy, focus on work, build better relationships, travel the world - everyone sets goals in this time every year.
Most of them tend to be action based, about what we want to do or accomplish. Actions are the surface level of our being, with the foundation being our character. So, as people set goals to do things, most of them don't happen - because they aren't looking at the root, or the foundation. Without changing the root, the outcome won't change.
The bible talks about the importance of a good foundation. Psalm 11:3 says, "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"
Translation = foundation is everything.
God wants us to have a firm foundation for our life, which will as a result produce good actions and life. And He says that Jesus is this foundation for our lives.
For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. - 1 Corinthians 3:11
As we see those around us making New Years resolutions, let us focus on changing the foundation of our lives to be God. In the end, that is all the matters.
